Courage Sisters are Patty Sundberg and Molly Who..., women as diverse in personality as in musical style. From the earth-and-plains honesty of the midwest, Patty brings her love for the land and people into music with highly melodic soprano vocals and gentle guitar. The harder streets of New Jersey gave Molly her cynical edge, rougher vocal stylings and haunting guitar licks. The combination creates a whole: Sisters of different lands coming together to paint stories of the world in poetry, sing their truth with complex harmonies, provoke thought and inspire hope through their evocative blends. Rise with them above unique challenges and extraordinary realities into a place of Courage.
Courage Sisters are excited to be finishing up their debut album, Dancing Together, with Crash Landing records. Many fine Tucson artists put their energies into this project. Among them are Don Reeve, who engineered the work as well as playing various instruments including electric and 12 string acoustic guitars and mandolin; Kevin Bowman, who colors the album with his amazing vocal range and fun harmonica; Marx Loeb, who steadied us all with his wit and rhythm; Jay Trapp, who plays a solid yet lyrical bass guitar; Karl Moeller whose unbelievable keyboard work gives an awesome, spiritual voice to several pieces; and Phil Stevens, who contributed his studio, engineering brilliance, coffee, an occasional bass line, piano part and beautiful viola and violin. Not to mention being our Mix Master.
Interestingly, it was during the recording of this project that Phil and Molly found common interests beyond music in computers and computer telecommunications. The foundational ideas for Euphoria came from discussions with Phil and Louanne, his wife, as Molly sneaked away from recording sessions to the constant frustration of Don and Patty and joined the Stevens' clan for coffee and more coffee and their wonderful humor and vision. Molly owes a lot to the patience of Don and Patty, and to the friends and opportunities that manifest during this project.
